A one-length cut — also called a blunt cut — maximizes the appearance of thickness and weight. It is ideal for fine or medium hair that needs density, and for clients who want a clean, architectural line. The bob, the lob, and the classic long straight cut are all one-length shapes. They require more maintenance to keep the line sharp, but when they are well-executed, nothing looks more deliberate.
Layers remove weight and create movement. For thick or coarse hair, layers are often essential — without them, the hair can appear bulky and refuse to lay flat. For fine hair, layers can be counterproductive, removing the little weight and density that exists.
