Balayage on the Upper East Side
Balayage is hand-painted color that grows out softly, with no harsh line at the root. At The Salon Project on Madison Avenue, our colorists build balayage around your natural base, skin tone and the way you wear your hair — so it looks expensive on day one and still looks intentional months later.

What makes balayage different
Traditional foils place color in even stripes from the root. Balayage is painted freehand, concentrating brightness where light naturally hits — around the face and through the ends — and keeping depth at the root. The result is dimension that blends instead of lines that show.
Is balayage right for you?
- You want brightness without frequent root touch-ups
- You're growing out a single-process color or old highlights
- You want a lived-in, natural finish rather than uniform highlights
- You're going lighter gradually and want to protect your hair's condition
What to expect at your appointment
- A consultation first — your colorist looks at your current color, history and goals
- Hand-painting tailored to your cut and how you part and style your hair
- A gloss or toner to set the final tone
- A finishing blowout so you leave seeing the real result
Balayage takes longer than a single-process color, so plan to set aside a few hours. Your formula is recorded, so your next visit starts where this one ended.
Keeping it fresh
Most clients refresh balayage every few months, with a gloss between visits to keep tone bright. Your colorist will suggest a schedule and at-home care for your hair type.

Good to know.
How much does balayage cost on the Upper East Side?
Pricing depends on your hair's length, density and the result you want, and you'll see it when you choose your service online. New clients take $100 off color services with code WARREN100.
Will balayage damage my hair?
Your colorist plans the lift around your hair's condition and can add bond-building treatment where it helps. Going lighter in stages is often the healthiest route.
Can I get balayage on dark hair?
Yes. Balayage on dark hair is usually built as warm, soft dimension — caramel, honey or bronze — and can be taken lighter over more than one visit.
